Overview

Northwood Technical College is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a full-time Dean of Workforce & Community Development at any of our four campus locations. (Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake or Superior)

 

The Dean of Workforce and Community Development (WCD) provides leadership and administration to the workforce and community development programming of the College. The dean supervises and coaches the Associate Deans of Workforce and Community Development and the WCD team.

 

This Academic Affairs position is responsible for collaboration with community organizations, businesses, and Northwood Technical College colleagues to build relationships, identify needs, and provide programming in credit and non-credit continuing education. Responsibilities also include program oversight and planning including program compliance, process improvement, and program scheduling oversight. The dean works collaboratively with all areas of the college to facilitate program and student success. Additional responsibilities include oversight and monitoring of budgets and grant related projects, participation in academic affairs-related campus operations and facilities planning, participating in Academic Affairs initiatives, and actively participating in college activities and initiatives.

 

The Dean of Workforce and Community Development reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

  • Lead Workforce and Community Development (WCD) team to determine successful strategies for the continuing education and contract training initiatives of the college. Provide direction and encouragement for desired outcomes and staff growth.
  • Oversee development and implementation of credit and non-credit programming that includes but is not limited to courses, seminars, and conferences appropriate for professional audiences and personal enrichment.
  • Develop, communicate, and monitor sales forecasts, budgets, progress reports, and other data-driven analytics.
  • Evaluate programming, set benchmarks, develop, and review budgets, and analyze financial outcome of decisions.
  • Participate as board member on economic development and workforce development boards, function as liaison between boards and other college divisions.
  • Make decisions and provide input on directions for processes, program start-up, equipment purchases, etc. 
  • Develop college-wide direction, rate structure, policy, and procedures for consistent internal and external facility utilization.
  • Supervise and coach Associate Deans and support staff as designated.
  • Foster relationships and serve as a key protocol contact and liaison with Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Workforce Training and Economic Development (WTED) statewide group.
  • Provide oversight of grant opportunities.
  • Participate in WTCS statewide activities, working with system staff on initiatives.
  • Understand local and regional workforce and economic development issues, working with community leaders to develop solutions.
  • Work with Institutional Effectiveness division to access decision-making data and provide input for college accreditation.
  • Manage human resources needs of the department including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and overseeing training.
  • Give presentations, provide outreach efforts, and engage with potential community partners including workforce boards and economic development corporations.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships and ongoing partnerships with all other divisions and departments within the college.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Degree & Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Four years related work experience
  • One year Supervisory/Leadership experience
  • Two years (four semesters) full-time post-secondary teaching, eight semesters part-time post-secondary teaching, or four years secondary education teaching combined with part-time post-secondary teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining accountability and motivation in self and others
  • Strong customer service skills that focus on diversity, community, and continuous quality improvement
  • Problem-solving skills that employ critical thinking
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects
  • Experience leading projects through time management and effective delegation
  • Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy

Preferred:

  • Sales management experience
  • Technical or community college background

Salary

FY25 Salary - $96,739 / year
